Up for Consideration is a Amazing Period c.1805 Napoleonic War Era Watercolor Portrait of British Officer & Artillery Regimental Surgeon John Savage M.D.

Offered to you is this Amazing Rare c1805 Napoleonic War Era Watercolor and Gouache Portrait Painting of British Officer and Regimental Surgeon John Savage M.D.
The Rectangle painting measures 7.0 inches by 9.5 inches and mounted to 10" x 11" matte board. It sits in its original period 13" x 15" Burl wood Frame under glass. The painting is highly detailed showing a skilled and knowledgeable portrait painter who captured not only the British officers Uniform but Sword and Bicorn Hat resting on the table he leans on. Condition is good. It has some light soiling and a area of discoloration which might be mounting residue or just a part of the painting. The back of the frame is wood paneled and has been sloppily taped by the previous owner. We've decided to just leave it alone. The name of the Officer and Rank have been painted by the artist on the lower right.We have researched the name and several possibilities do come up on-line, but nothing more than his notation of service and further research should be performed by the new owner.
The Frame is again period to the pieces and shows some age cracks on the surface of the wood. There is the possibility that this painting had an outer matte at one time.

Unless this is a signed self portrait which it very well might be, the Artist is unknown!
