RARE Original WW2 Photo Lot ALASKA Bell P-39 Aircobra / Air Cobra/Very RARE photos never seen in any web site or book that I could find. I will have about 12 lots of this historic photos from ALASKA of aircraft crash sites andvehicledesigned for cold weather rescue during WWII. The T-36 Iron Man / Weasel was tested in the harsh climate of theUnited States AirTransport service. Many photos show it being used with a sled in the rough terrain of Alaska. You will see photos of Col Joe Westover and other officers along with the soldiers. We also have very very RARE photos that are dated 1944 by theplaque or sign on the T-36 while in garage being serviced or assembled.This is a lot of 6 photos in ALASKA of a P-39 Air Cobra fighter plane. I have taken up close shot of the tail numbers so you can do research. Thereare two different aircraft, one with an extra fuel tank 21969, the other is 2074. There is a pilot wearing his A2 pilot jacket
Joe retired out here in Long Beach California.. These are personal official Army Air Corp photos that I received from the family over 20 years ago. A part of history of this famous aviator who is in the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame. Here is a little info about Joe

Westover began as a barnstorming parachute jumper before joining the US Air Service as a mechanic in World War I. After the war he worked for the Glenn Curtiss Company in New York and joined the aerial circus troupe of Ruth Law. He accompanied her across the country, finding his way to Minnesota.

Westover then went to work for the Curtiss-Northwest Company of William Kidder in St. Paul. He joined the 109th Air Guard Squadron and served ten years. He founded his own aerial circus, which performed at the Minnesota State Fair twice. He also appeared as an aerial stuntman with Gladys Roy as wing-walker.

In 1928 Westover went to work for Universal Air Lines as a fleet maintenance supervisor. When Universal merged into the American Airline system, he graduated to the position of line pilot. He was also a skilled aerial photographer while serving with the Air Guard.
Joe was Ruth Law's personal mechanic during WW1 . I have many early photos of him with Ruth Law and Glady Roy, and many photos of his early flying days in the Circus Barnstorming days and his days in the military. When WW2 came along Joe was a perfect fit for the cold weather flying to command a base up in Alaska. He also flew the early mail routes and knew all about cold weather flying. Joe was also credited along with David Irwin of the organization of PARA PUPS air rescue service with military dogs About 5 years back I sold on all the photos I had on this operation and the man has since wrote a book about the war dogs Maggie and Jiggs who received their paratrooper jump wing. Great story ! I will have over 12 lots of around 4 photos in each lot from his file.
