Up for Consideration is a Rare Original 1830's Pre-Civil War Era Worcester, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia Frock Coat with All 35 Brass Buttons

Rare Worcester, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia Frock Coat, Crimson Red dyed wool dating from around 1830-40. This Pre-Civil War Frock Coat has all 35 plain unmarked 1.0 inch dark patina brass buttons, 19 of which are on the front. Collar and cuffs are in an white cotton canvas decorated in gold metal woven fabric, as are the flap pockets. The back of the jacket is somewhat interesting with the bottom inner white canvas lining turned up and attached on either end of a brass button. It has strait sleeves with flapped cuffs, each with 3 matching buttons. Inside of jacket the white cotton canvas lining is in nice condition. The overall condition of this Frock Coat is good to very good with the under arm lining in need of repair. There are a couple loose strings, some minor fraying and a couple scattered moth holes, soiling and parts of inner the black satin lining have some tearing. One of the coat flaps attached to the buttons at the back bottom of the coat has come loose and needs to be reattached (pinned up in photos) Lastly button holes seem unfinished as there is no sewn border around the opening which is puzzling as the rest of this coat is beautifully and carefully sewn together.
