RARE ON SALE NOW: CHICAGO 1893 WORLD\'S COLUMBIAN EXPO RARE 10 SHARE STOCK CERT:
$459.00

This is a rare stock certificate from the Columbian Expo. They\'ve gotten to be virtually impossible to locate. This one was acquired by a collector about 30-35 years ago. It is part of the Reuben Rodriguez collection of Columbiana that I am selling for the late collector\'s son, Reuben Jr.
Yhe only fault in the stock certificate, one that I believe would not be noticed if it were framed on display, is the original signature of Harlow Higinbotham in bold black ink. Apparently the ink or pressure applied in signing Higinbotham\'s name caused the ink to soak through the paper. You can see where the signature looks as if someone has taken a very sharp blade and carefully cut our the blank space within the signature. I suspect, since this is the result of ink soaking the paper from Higinbotham\'s fountain pen, that it has always been present; it quite likely was present from the moment it was signed and thus has suffered no damage over the years in storage.
I personally would have no issue owning this piece; I only purchase items I personally like or would be happy to own. The stock certiicate displays well and is a very tough item to find today. I have not seen one sell for less than $500+ in many years.
The senior Reuben was a customer of mine and quietly built a very nice collection over many years of collecting.
Last year the first items I sold were a small handful of tickets, but all were superb and very scarce to rare and unique. A pass to the Kilaeua Volcano attraction on the Midway from that group brought a record price for a ticket/pass to the WCE--$3600+ that was the actual price as there was no buyer\'s premium as with all sale houses.
Reuben Sr. purchased some $7,500 in WCE tickets from my collection sold by Heritage in 2008. Reuben never sold any items from his collection and devoted a room in his home to displaying his collection, which as you would suspect lacked enough space to display everything. He had shelves and a cabinet, and all of the walls were FULL.
I flew to Michigan last year and loaded the collection into a rental car (not a compact!) to drive back to Seattle.
LASTLY, I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ONE OTHER ITEM FROM THE COLLECTION--A VERY LARGE (3X4 FEET) ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING OF THE WORLD\'S FAIR. A FRIEND OF REUBEN\'S (AN AWARD WINNING ARTIST) PAINTED THE PICTURE AT REUBEN\'S URGING. HE HAD PLENTY OF MATERIAL/PHOTOS/ILLUSTRATIONS FROM 1893 O SHARE WITH HER AND SHE CREATED AV ERY LOVELY PIECE.
I HAVEN\'T LISTED IT YET SIMPLY BECAUSE I HAVE NOT LOOKED INTO THE EXPENSE OF PACKAGING AND SHIPPING. I WOULD ASSUME IT WOULD COST SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS.
IF YOU HAVE INTEREST AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE PHOTOS BEFORE I OFFER IT FOR SALE ON PLEASE CONTACT ME. IF I HAD A PROPER PLACE TO DISPLAY THE PAINTING IT WOULD ALREADY BE ON A WALL IN MY HOME.PLEASE NOTE:I\'m back around 1-2 hours maximum per day after my knee replacement surgery (What a wonderful treat!) but will get back up to speed as quickly as possible, probably not before the end of May. IPlease ask about a special sale I\'m planning--just medals: US and European fairs, 1893 Columbian Expo of course, 1851 Crystal Palace through Vancouver\'s Expo \'86, non-fair medals, most very high grades, nearly all AT LEAST BU and plenty of gems and prooflikes as well. It\'s a great group and I\'ve assembled 50 medals thus far and will continue to add items for the sale in the coming weeks.
If you drop me a note I can let you know when the sale is ready. It will likely not be before late June.
If your world\'s fair interest includes 1893 Chicago, please take a moment to stop by the WORLDS COLUMBIAN JOURNAL, my blog dedicated to just the 1893 expo. It is strictly an editorial site and thus ok to list per \'s rules. You can find it atwww.worldscolumbianjournal.comIf this link doesn\'t take you directly to the site please just paste it into your browser.Note there is no apostrophe in \'worlds\' in the address.
I continue working on my 3rd book about the WCE, the comprehensive catalog of WCE tickets and passes, dozens of which have never been identified previously. It is not just a catalog, but a detailed history--lots of text as well as prices realized over the years, and so on.
