RARE Indonesian Hand carved Teak Hanuman Monkey King Sculpture Mahabharata OLD:

This is a hand carved, solid wood sculpture of the Monkey King Hanuman
from Indonesia. It is old, and was shipped directly from Indonesia over 60 years ago, and is older than that.
It weighs 13.44 pounds, and is about 22 1/4 inches high, by 11 by 8 inches deep 11 inches width. It has a flat base, with white felt on the underside to protect it. It isintricatelycarved teak wood, that has a darkened color in some places due to age, and typical of high quality Indonesian art in it\'s style and superb attention to detail.
It is a one-of-a-kind, exquisite piece! It was not easy to photograph this, so feel free to e-mail me with questions. Sculpture like these are displayed in the homes of noble families, often with a well pressed batik under the piece. The rich colors of the batiks, and teak wood sculpture and furniture contrast beautifully with white painted walls and deep green plants. Unfortunately I can not manage to stage this properly, so the photos do not do it justice. The white fluff you see on the close-up is from my Swiffer duster, it is not dirt. It would benefit from a nice rub of tung oil. It is a lovely old piece.
Here are the details about its provenance: It is unsigned as far as we can surmise, so we do not know the artist. The piece was bought in Indonesia and brought personally to NYC from Indonesia by an Indonesian professional swimmer who was in the Asian Games (like the Olympics in Asia) in the 1960\'s (female-a relative) and was gifted to a close relative of the first ambassador to the USA.
