RARE HUBLEY EARLY 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN FOLK ART ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE,9 3/4\" in HEIGHT, HEAVY, SUBSTANTIAL, ENAMEL PAINTED, CAST IRON STANDING BLACK CAT with RAISED, POINTED EARS METAL DOORSTOP, featuring FIRST GENERATION, ORIGINAL PAINTED SURFACES & DRY, MATTE FINISH, with GREEN ENAMEL PAINTED EYES, RED ENAMEL PAINTED MOUTH & BLACK ENAMEL PAINTED BODY, STAMPED \'18\' on BACK, with MINIMAL AREAS of OXIDATION, OCCURRING PREDOMINATELYon CAST IRON BASEPLATE[Very scarce, completely original and absolutely outstanding. Offered is this Hubley, early 20th century American folk art, antique primitive hand painted cast iron figurative, 9 3/4\" in height, standing black cat doorstop. The cat\'s especially muscular and its painted ears give it a particularly nefarious, evil appearance. This malevolent feline enjoys first generation, 100% original, untouched enamel painted surfaces. It has a dry, matte finish. There\'s some slight, minor episodes of oxidation, largely unseen & mostly occurring on the doorstop\'s baseplate. This almost 10\" in height figurative doorstop is substantial and heavy, allowing a wooden door to swing toward it and abruptly come to a full stop without falling over. The eyes are painted in green enamel and the mouth is painted in red enamel. The entire body is painted in black enamel. Hubley produced this particular version after the turn of the century, when the macabre was more widely celebrated and such a menacing creature would be readily accepted into someone\'s Victorian parlor.
