This listing is for a rare find . A 1894 Grand Army of the Republic 28th National Encampment Medal in its original presentation case with the original papers on how the medal came to be.The bronzecamefrom themeltingdown of a12 poundcannonmade in1842. The suspension bar has scenes of war, peace and prosperity. Below that is a keystone drop showing Pittsburgh\'s earliest defenses. The ribbon is an American Flag with yellow borders.
The pendant is a bronze shield with the city seal of Pittsburgh and \" 28th National Encampment, Pittsburgh, 1894\". Please see the photos of the reverse for condition and additional inscriptions. The medal comes with its original brass case with a polished steel lid with embossed designs of Pittsburgh-oil and gas rig, steel mill etc, as well as the booklet inside describing the history of the medal. In very good original condition.When boxed for shipping it weighs 10 ounces (21303)
