RARE French Shabby Chic Thomas Forester & Sons Majolica 19th Century Cheese Dome: $319.00
STUNNINGLY RARE, OOAK French Shabby Chic Thomas Forester & Sons Majolica 19th Century Antique English Victorian Antique Majolica
1800s Thomas Forester Majolica Embossed Cheese Keeper Dome with embossed birds & flowers on top of a gorgeous pink, blue, & pale yellow color palette base. This is a dreamy piece of history!
This beautiful piece from the 1800s was originally purposed to fit large wheels of England style cheese. Nowadays, it makes the perfect keeper of sweet treats!
If I’m being honest with myself, personally, I’d display this beauty as a lovely dining table centerpiece or china cabinet addition!
•MEASUREMENTS: 8 3/4” H x 9 3/4” Diameter
•CONDITION: Overall excellent condition for the age— signs of crazing and color fading as well as a couple of chips. Reach out with questions!!
•IMPORTANT INFO This piece was originally purchased with a replacement plate (which I discovered after the fact)— the original plate which accompanied the dome has been replaced with a very valuable plate by Bishop & Stonier ‘Oriental Ivory' circa the late 1800’s.
—Bishop & Stonier ‘Oriental Ivory': The trade mark of a seated ‘oriental’ man with a parasol is registered in 1880 and was often used with the initials B P & S. It was also used by the successors Bishop & Stonier after 1891
•HISTORY: Majolica is famous for rich colors and easy brushstrokes. This is the quintescential archtype of true majolica. Majolica was the rebellion of formal china. This stilton cheese server uses cobalt blue as its base color along with pinks and yellow accents.
This colorful piece sometimes known as a Cheese Bell or Stilton Dish is decorated with birds and water lilies with an anthemion border.
Made in the Thomas Forester Factory in Longton, Staffordshire and dates from around 1880.
**The design and colors indicate this attribution since their wares were rarely marked.
The majolica color drips in the glaze make this one of a kind and very unique collectible piece. Please examine photos for condition details and close ups.
