This absolutely gorgeous antique Murano table lamp has been rewired and has a new pad of felt on the bottom. It is not marked, but this is an early example that I would estimate dates to the 1930’s or so. The base color of the glass is pink/purple, but it is true opalescent glass, with the unique property that it has a bluish, milky tone when light shines on it from the front, but gleams with a orange-red “fire” when lit from behind. This combines with the way the deep ridges of the glass catch the light and creates a stunning, ethereal blend of colors. As you can see, this item is in very good condition for its age, with some light overall wear and some oxidation spotting of the brass. There are some bubbles in the glass, including a small nick on the lower piece that I think is from a bubble that burst at the surface (see photo).In addition to the hole in the metal base, there is an extra hole drilled in the glass for a cord. I think that this is just a minor factory error from miscommunication between the glass workers and those who assembled the finished lamps. Please see all photos. Shipped with great care.
