DESCRIPTION:Excellent and in simply incredible condition. From an early Cape Cod, Massachusetts finely appointed estate. This pair of early 19th century English Staffordshire white lions holding potted plants in their mouths, was produced during the Federal to early Sheraton period and date anywhere from 1810 to 1835 and are in truly remarkably well-preserved condition. They\'re not only hand decorated with colored glaze but also have manes that are made of tooled, \'pinned\' porcelain ceramic material, to give the lion\'s mane a natural, textured, matte-glazed finish. This occurs as well on the short, stubby tails of each lion and around the ankles. The lion\'s bodies are smooth and have a highly reflective finish, as opposed to the textured manes. The figures sit on raised, ornamental porcelain bases, with silver gilt slip decorated tassel details on each corner of the stands. Directly below the lions, to set the white bodies of the figures off from the bases, is cobalt blue slip glaze decorated, hand painted pads. The ceramic pots in the lion\'s mouths are hand painted, with burnt sienna and viridian green light semi-transparent glaze. Extraordinary objects. Very fine and with no damage. There\'s no ceramic loss, chips, hairline cracks, scuffs, abrasions, glaze diminishment or repairs (old or new.) Top shelf. To die for. 185 to 210 years old and counting. What possibly that old, is still in this kind of extremely well-preserved overall antique condition, without being from an estate, where they would have been constantly safe-guarded and cared for, for generations? Clearly, some people \'have nice things.\' They don\'t come any nicer than this. Splendid objets d\'art. Magnificent.
