Up for sale is a beautiful and rare photo portrait of Gideon Welles, the Secretary of the Navy during and after the Civil War (1861-1869).Welles served in this post under Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson and also was a newspaper editor, member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, and postmaster of Hartford, CT. This cabinet card is a photo print from famed photographer Matthew Brady and has only two marks on it: the identification in fountain pen on the card under the photo that reads \"Ex. Sec\'y Welles\" and one smudge on the left side of the photo. This is minor and can be seen in the photos. Measures 6 3/8\" tall by 5 1/4\" wide. A wonderful cabinet card in very good condition for an 150 year-old-photo. If you have any questions, please email me and thank you for looking!
