RARE ANTIQUE TWIN FUSEE ROCOCO MANTEL CLOCK in LOUIS XVI STYLE carved mahogany:

A very rare English mantel clock made circa 1775 and with carved mahogany rococo case in Louis XVI style. The superb, 8 day, twin fusee movement striking the hour on a bell. Offered in good working order and glorious antique condition. Includes original pendulum and a suitable winding key.The 8 day, twin fusee movement with gut lines and notable for its baluster form pillars (4) and round plates. Unsigned but of the highest quality and striking the back mounted bell on the hour only whilst keeping pretty good time.The dial with porcelain cartouche numerals and centre cast with fruit and what appear to be a pair of squirrels! The blued steel hands appear to be original.The carved mahogany case is a work of art. There is an applied carved spray of roses begining above the serpents head which is astonishing in its delicacy and detail. The backbox housing the movement is made from oak and historically a slight alteration was made in which the lenticle for viewing the pendulum from the front was sealed and the young carved mahogany satyr added to the front acting as a door stop as the bezel doesn\'t quite stay shut! There is some evidence of breaks/repairs to the odd swirl and the glass has a scratch at 9. Notwithstanding for a clock around 250 years old this is in rather good condition over all in my opinion.Weighs 6kg before wrapping. Stands 20.5\" (53cm) high, 13.5\" (34cm) wide and 6.75\" (17cm) deep.
