Gerry Whiting Hazelton(February24, 1829 – September 29, 1920) was anAmericanpolitician and aRepublicanUnited States RepresentativefromWisconsin. Born inChester,Rockingham County, NewHampshirehe attended the common schools,Pinkerton AcademyinDerry, New Hampshire, andreceived instruction from a private tutor. He studied law and was admitted tothe bar inAmsterdam, New Yorkin1852. Hazeltonmoved toColumbus, Wisconsinin1860 where he served in theWisconsin State Senatein1860 and was chosen as president pro tempore. He was a delegate to the1860 RepublicanNational Conventionand becamedistrict attorneyforColumbia County, Wisconsinin1864. He was then appointed collector ofinternal revenuefor the second district of Wisconsin in1866 and removed byPresident Johnsonthesame year. Elected to the House of Representatives in theForty-secondandForty-thirdUnited States CongressesHazeltonwas United States Representative forWisconsin's 2ndcongressional district(March 4, 1871 - March 3, 1875).Afterhe served his terms, he moved toMilwaukeeand became theUnited States attorneyforthe eastern district of Wisconsin. He later was appointed special master inchancery in 1912 and was the United States court commissioner and commissionerfor Milwaukee County for many years. Hazelton died in Milwaukee on September29, 1920 (age 91 years, 218 days). He isinterredat Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
