RARE 1924 vintage CARVED WOOD 12” mahjong dish BAM, DOTs, CRACK, NSEW, Dragons:

Note that this is wonderful decor befitting the Mah Jong craze era of the 1920s. Terrific dish to use at your weekly (daily) game. It's a single piece, all by itself.

I figure this likely to be an early crafted piece from soon after the Mah Jong craze hit in 1922/23. But that is simply my guesstimate. I have owned it at least 35 years.

While it’s very possible that it was produced in bigger numbers, I can’t find anything close to itviewable online.There’s no maker name or mark.

It is very sturdy and in very nice condition. While there is coloration of the 3 "dot" tiles, that might have been in its original look 100 years ago. Shines in the light as can be seen because the wood curves.

The 16 tiles along the outside comprise: the 4 winds at the “compass” locations, also 7 4 and Sparrow in bams, 8 5 2 in dots, 9 6 3 in cracks, and the Red, Green and White Dragons.

SIZE: 11 3/4” across its diameter. 1 1/4” high, resting on the table. Wood is of a consistent 1/4” thickness. See the pic that includes a ruler.The dish weighs about 13 oz.

There is no maker name.

Being a visual item with no clear name, it is virtually unresearchable on line. “Mahjong wood tile dish”

gives endless returns but nothing anywhere close to this, just various mahjong game equipment.
