RARE 1/6 PLATE OVAL DAGUERREOTYPE - VIGNETTE OF PRETTY GIRL - BLUE VELVET CASE- You very rarely see an oval daguerreotype made in this larger size; I would describe the actual plate as slightly smaller than a standard sixth plate and housed in the original blue velvet case.Although this gorgeous child\'s likeness came to me with a few wipes, she remains an extremely stunning example for someone\'s collection. I am a huge fan of the meandering ring of tarnish surrounding the edge of the plate. I find this iridescent quality shows off the life of these silvery likenesses where some air touched the surface of the edge of the plate. The young princess seems to float on a magical cloud within the oval frame. I guarantee you will fall in love with her the moment she arrives at your door. Good luck to the next caretaker.

CONDITION:Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The daguerreotype as mentioned above is nearly the height of a normal sixth plate. The likeness contains excellent contrast, tonal range and superb sharpness. Yes, the plate came to me with a few small wipes, but they are only obvious at certain angles. The image is surrounded by some age appropriate tarnish which gives this image a bold and beautiful border. As mentioned above, the case is a rich blue velvet with some minor age wear compared to many others you will find on .The case retains the original hinge, working clasp system and a nearly pristine silk pillow.An attractive subject and size of this vignetted example makes this image highly desirable by many 19th Century photo collectors.
