Pre-Civil War Antique Bowie Knife/Related Confederate Short Sword:

This is a well-used, long bowie knife which I believe was pre-Civil War. The blade is 14 3/4\" in length and has a number of either blood etchings or etchings from being in a sheath for many years. The blade has some nicks on the edge and some stress marks from hitting against rifle barrels or something similar. From the crossguard to the end of the handle is 5 inches. The walnut handle appears to be heavily used. The furniture on the knife is either a dark-patina brass or bronze. The knife fits the sheath just as it should. Many of the D-guard Civil War knives were far to heavy to carry on long marches and many were discarded for the long bowie knives. This knife is solidly built as a deadly weapon but light weight enough to carry on long marches. This is a beautiful display piece.
