Photograph Notes: The house, on the corner of Main Road and Wisteria Avenue, was formerly the farmhouse for Wistaria Farm, which presumably occupied the land to the north of the farmhouse. The land has been built over (Wisteria Avenue houses). The farmhouse was built in the 17th century, with various alterations and extensions in later centuries. Grade II listed in May 1984.Regarding the spelling with 'a' or 'e', the house name plate has Wistaria Farm whereas the street name sign (on the perimeter wall at the far side of the house) shows Wisteria Avenue. The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary gives both spellings and states that the shrub was named after Caspar Wistar (or Wister) (17611818). So both spellings are correct!
