Photograph Notes: The site of Prospect Hill junction in Whitby. The path to the right is the route of a railway route which descended a steep gradient to join the Esk Valley line as it entered Whitby Town station. The path to the left continued south to Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough. The railway closed in 1965.The path to the left now forms part of the Cinder Track walking and cycling trail, which follows the former railway from Whitby to Scarborough. It is also on the route of National Cycle Network route 1.
