Overall Length: 6 3/4" Other Notes: A huge, beautiful jaw hanger which showcases some amazing grain for a Pete. This pipe comes from the collection of Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, former Minister of Foreign Affairs for Denmark. I did not know Ellemann-Jensen, who passed in 2022, but my understanding is that he held his post in the Danish government for over ten years, starting in the early 1980s, and I've read that his work in the position led to him being considered one of the Nordic region's key politicians during the end years of the Cold War.Ellemann-Jensen's estate was handled by the Danish Pipe shop, and their certificate of authenticity is included with this pipe, as shown in the photos. This pipe seems like it was well-smoked, but also well-loved given that it is still in stellar condition. There are a few minor scuffs on the bowl, and the backside of the chamber seems to have a touch of carbonization, but everything else is in great shape. I have cleaned and sanitized this pipe (although please note that I only reamed the chamber after taking the photos, so please forgive the dirty chamber in the majority of the pics), so it will be ready to smoke when it arrives at your door! About this pipe model, from Peterson Pipe Notes: “This is the other half of the duo of commemoratives released in 1990 to celebrate Charles Peterson’s first System patent, for which he applied on August 8th, 1890. He was awarded patent number 12393 for Ireland and Great Britain—which is stamped on the sterling band of these commemorative pipes—on June 16th, 1891—something, as I said earlier, that routinely confounds those uninitiated in the world of Peterson. These were new (and quite daring) System shapes, not antique reproductions, as is often erroneously maintained. I have lost my set of measurements for this pipe, but it is the tallest chambered of all the oom pauls—I’m thinking 55mm or so. In any event, when you hear collectors talk about “functional art,” this pipe oozes it. Not for the feint of heart." All pipes are sold in the condition shown in the pictures.
