An original late 1800s pair of U.S. Army brass rosettes for horse or mule harness or blinders. This type is believed to have been in use as early as the Spanish/American War (1898). Later these rosettes ended up being found by dirt farmers who used them on their work horses and mules long after the war. They are often recovered by diggers in Civil War sites and mistaken for the rosettes from the 1860s. These rosettes have a nice brown patina with a little verdigris on the back sides. The three folding tabs for attachment are intact. They measure 1 1/4\" diameter and weigh around 7 grams each.
