A SUPER RARE example of an excavated 1 piece United States Diplomatic or Military Officer's button of the early 1790's, just after the Revolutionary War. Albert# OD-1 page 295/6. This example has a backmark that reads " CARTER * LOMBARD STREET * ". Button measures 22.87. A rare button with the same design as the reverse of the 1790s United States gold pieces. Very early style eagle with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" around the rim. This excavated button retains a dark patina and there is no shank.See photos for condition details.
