Original lifetime lithograph of the Duke de Castiglione and ally of Napoleon by the Dutch engraver and lithographer Ludwig Gottlieb Portman (1772-1828). The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has one in their collection dated 1807. The lithograph measures 6" x 9" and is in superb condition!

CharlesPierre François Augereau, 1st Duke ofCastiglione(1757 – 1816)wasa French military commander and aMarshal of the Empirewho servedduring theFrench Revolutionary Warsand theNapoleonic Wars.After serving in the Revolutionary Wars, he earned rapid promotion whilefighting against Spain and soon found himself as a division commanderunderNapoleon Bonapartein Italy. He fought in all of Bonaparte'sbattles of 1796 with great distinction. During theNapoleonic Wars,Napoleon entrusted Augereau with important commands. His life ended under acloud because of his poor timing in switching sides between Napoleon andKingLouis XVIII. Napoleon wrote of Augereau that he"has plentyof character, courage, firmness, activity; is inured to war; is well liked bythe soldiery; is fortunate in his operations."
