ORIGINAL WWI ERA PHOTO - ORIGINAL TO THE TIME - NOT A COPY, SCAN, OR REPRO

QUANTITY: 1 - See the other original WWI & WWII photos that I have listed.

ITEM: Original WWI Era Snapshot Photo of YOUNG MAN with MANDOLIN in LANCASTER, Pennsylvania, circa 1919-1920. Apparently a friend or relative of Louis Stoeckl. .

See the other Stoeckl photos I have listed by looking for 42nd Division and Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Photo is from Louis Leo Stoeckl of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was in the 4th Pennsylvania National Guard Regiment part of which became the 149th Machine Gun Battalion when it was assigned to the 42nd Rainbow Division in 1917. Stoeckl was in Company K which in early 1918 was redesignated Company D and assigned to the 151st Machine Gun Battalion so it (the 151st) would have four machine gun companies in the 84th Brigade along with the 167th & 168th Infantry Regiments. Stoeckl was a gunner who fired one of the four machine guns in the Third Platoon commanded by my grandad, Lieutenant N. P. Parkinson, throughout their fighting in France. Companies A. B, and C were from Georgia, but Company D was from Lancaster, PA. The 1917 Roster of the 42nd Division lists Stoeckl as a Sergeant, but Grandad\'s 1919 Roster of Company D lists him as a Private. Not sure if one of those ranks is a mistake or if he was demoted during the war. Grandad\'s records indicate Stoeckl\'s Serial Number was 114336. He lived at 501 High Street in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and was apparently a motorcycle enthusiast before and after the war. The history of Company D, 151st Machine Gun Battalion is detailed in the book, Commanding Fire by Lieutenant N. P. Parkinson and edited by Joel Parkinson.
