An amazing collection of Native American Heraldic or Ledger Art drawings depicting scenes from The Battle of Little Big Horn / Custer’s Last Stand. The sketch book is signed Frank White Buffalo Man, 1967, who is a grand son of Sitting Bull. Frank White Buffalo Man was a popular promoter of Northwest Indian culture and travelled with his family with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show in the 1920’s. He was an accomplished artist, and the sketch book or ledger art became a very private and personal one to the artist, contained within closed books, and not one for the world to see.

Collection totals 46 pages with drawings of chiefs, warrior shields, masks, war attire, and sign language. Drawings are done in pen and colored with marker. While in very good condition, several pages show bleed through from the marker as shown in one example photograph. A few pages with slight creasing to the corners as well as a few that have separated from the sketchbook spine. An incredibly impressive and historically important piece of Native American history.

Appraisal done by Barnebys in 2020 with an insurance value of $22,000. The conservative sale estimate was $10,000 to $12,000.
