Émile Belcourt(27 June 1926 – 3 August 2017) was a Canadian operatic tenor. He appeared in operas atEnglish National Operaand elsewhere, and also appeared in musicals.

In 1962, Belcourt appeared inScottish Opera\'s first season, as Pelléas. He returned to Scottish Opera in the later years, including their production of Verdi\'sOtelloin the second season, and as Shuysky in Mussorgsky\'sBoris Godunovin 1965.[2]

In London, he appeared in 1962 withthe Royal Operaas Gonzalve inL\'heure espagnoleby Ravel. In the following year he appeared withSadler\'s Wells Operaas Pluto in Offenbach\'sOrpheus in the Underworld(repeating the role twenty years later in the 1983 BBC television production[4]). During the following thirty years, he played many roles at Sadler\'s Wells (later renamed English National Opera); these included Eisenstein inDie Fledermausand Loge inDas Rheingold,[1]as well as Herod inSalome, Shuysky inBoris Godunov, Dr Suda inOsudand Sciocca inThe Violins of Saint-Jacques(creation, 1966), and he participated in the premieres ofToussaintbyDavid BlakeandThe Royal Hunt of the SunbyIain Hamilton.

Belcourt appeared in musicals, includingMan of La Manchain London\'s West End in 1968 andKiss Me, Kateat Sadler\'s Wells in 1970. In 1988, as Émile de Becque, he was inSouth Pacificat thePrince of Wales Theatre.[1]He created the role of the neurologist inThe Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hatby Michael Nyman in 1986.
