Museum Grade | Artifact of 1970s United States Culture & History

NOT FOR CONSUMPTION. This vintage food product is sold for collectible display purposes only. Any remaining product is not fit for human consumption and should not be eaten or used. This ketchup is EXPIRED!!!! DO NOT EAT THIS!!! DO NOT EAT THIS KETCHUP!!! This is an antique/collectible item, and is obviously NOT SAFE to eat. Safety cap appears still un-popped but it is over 40 years old so do not eat.

Believe your eyes... they are not fooling you.

You have just discovered one of the rarest items currently listed on .

There is nothing else like this for sale in the entire world. You'll find nothing equivalent on or anywhere (we've looked!).

We cannot find any equivalent sold listings to make a judgment about this item's market value.

This is a bottle of ketchup from the 1970s that has never, ever been opened.

It was discovered deep within a kitchen cabinet around the 2004-2006 timeframe, and has been safely stored in a box ever since then.

This bottle of ketchup expired in 1978... over 40 years ago!!!!

We are not experts on vintage ketchup products, but we do indeed believe this product is very, very old.

There are several indictors that help verify the authenticity & extreme age of this ketchup:

1) You can see in the pictures that the ketchup itself has turned into complete liquid substance (no more thickness to its texture). The chemical properties of the ketchup have aged dramatically -- it is obviously no longer remotely fresh or suitable for human consumption.

2) You can also see the ketchup is now DARK in color, not BRIGHT RED, as is typical of tomato ketchup. Imagine -- how long would it take for the ketchup in your refrigerator to turn DARK?

3) The bottle style and bottle art appears to be consistent with that of the 1970s era, restaurant-style bottle. Go onto YouTube and search for 1970s era Heinz advertisements. You can also Google for vintage art posters/ads for Heinz from the 1970s. You will quickly see for yourself that this bottle is the real deal folks ...

4) We are not 100% certain, but the text on the lid does clearly say "BF. 1978" which we interpret to mean something like "best before" or "better if used by/before"... we are pretty sure that the ketchup likely expired around 1978. We do not believe the "BF" in this particular instance is some kind of other reference to a serial number, lot number, or other indicator. We are not certain what year companies first started printing "Expiration" or "Best if Used By" dates on stuff, but we think this was probably pretty common practice for major brands by the 1970s.

We welcome response/messages from "experts" on this field if you have a different opinion or data to back your claim.

Again, we are not experts on this topic.

We are welcoming offers on this product.

We recommend adding this item to your watchlist as we may elect to host a sale for this item later on (depending on whether or not we receive credible offers).

Please keep in mind that this product only appreciates in value with age... it is like the finest of wines... we're not in any rush to sell this!

Make a compelling offer, and it's yours!

Thanks!
