The first is a study of prostitution as it operated in old west dance halls of nineteenth century. In addition to describing prostitution in this setting there are dance hall floor plans, photos of the dance halls and pictures of the women who worked in them. Saloon girls are discussed in the second section. Here one discovers how prostitution operated in the old saloons. Also found in this section are samples of floor plans and photographs of saloons and the women who worked in them. The third section describes the operation of prostitute cribs. Included in this section are photos of old cribs, floor plans of cribs and many photos of western frontier prostitutes. The final section is a study of western brothels, how they operated and the women that worked in them. There are also many floor plans along with pictures of brothels. In addition there is an extensive photograph collection of groups of women taken in different brothels. This may be the largest collection of brothel photos published. The book also includes copies of old ordinances prohibiting prostitution and locations of restricted districts found in some western towns.
