Here is an old cabinet card photo of three children, two girls in white dresses and a boy in a pair of knickers and jacket with white collar and big black bow at the neck. He and the older girl are wearing black leggings and have laced high top shoes. On the back is written Rufus Gallup, Toddsville, N.Y., and the number 32, along with a stamp that reads R4265. The photographer was C. B. Cooley of Cooperstown, N. Y. I did some research and I believe that these are the 3 children of Rufus Gallup and his wife Frances Jane Clement. Rufuswas born in Toddsville, April 8, 1843 and lived there until 1861, when he enlisted in Company K, First Regiment New York Light Artillery. He served with his regiment for four years and proved himself a brave and capable soldier. His war record was a most creditable and he received an honorable discharge at the end of the war.At the close of the was Mr. Gallup went to New York city, where he made his home for twelve years. He then went to Cooperstown to reside and on December 6, 1879, he was united in marriage in that place with Miss Frances Clement. The couple went to Toddsville and made their home in that place until 1896, when they moved to New Hartford, NY. They had 3 children, Susie Anna Gallup (1881 - 1961), she married Arthur H. Roberts (1884 - 1963) in 1908. Raymond R. Gallup who was born in 1888 and died young in 1901. Their 3rd child was daughter Matie Gallup, who married Joseph A. Virkler (1886 - 1966) in 1913. Rufus Gallup died in 1911 and his wife, Frances died in 1932. They are buried in Green Lawn Cemetery in New Hartford, NY, along with their 3 children and their spouses. The photo is nice and clear with some marks from age and storage. The cardboard it is mounted on has some rough spots around the edges and corners. The back has some discoloration.
