Measures approx 28 x 40 inches
Original Vintage Lithograph, over 100 years old. Great eye appeal and good condition for a print its age. Tears at top and side edge that have been repaired with archival mending tissue from behind. Minor creasing and a couple small edge nicks; else very good. Paper is extremely bright and the image is well inked.
This is an vintage Red Cross advertisement that was used during World War I to raise awarene about the War Fund. It was designed by C.W. Love (1881 -1967) and produced by the United States Printing and Lithograph Co. of New York. The poster depicts a wounded soldier reaching out to a Red Cross Flag, behind him stand a woman and child also facing the flag. The background of the poster shows the New York Harbor, specifically the Statue of Liberty; the two contrasting light and dark images connect the soldiers fighting abroad and the victims of the warwith the civilians back in the United States. The Red Cross WarFund was a means for non-military Americans to provide aid to both injured soldiers and European civilians; the posters text, "If you can't go across with a gun, Come across with your part of the Red Cross War Fund," drives home this message.
