?This is a RARE and COMPLETE Switlik quick attach seat \"Safety Chute\" brand parachute which was used primarily by commercial airlines from 1930\'s to well into the post-WWII period in the 1950\'s According to my records, I purchased this chute from the late great Manions International sale on January 20, 1999, thinking it was the naval aviation Quick Attach Seat (\"QAS\") parachute. Doh! The seat pack or \"tray\" was left in the seat of the aircraft (see the illustration above from a Switlik advertisment in an April 1932 edition ofAero Digest,which the buyer will receive)and after the pilot or passenger was seated wearing the harness, he/she would attach the chute to the harness, as needed in an emergency. The chute was attached to the harness at two points on the sides of the pack tray. There is a good thread on the US Militaria Forum entitled \"1945 C.A.A.T.C. Switlik Safety Parachute?\", dated February 26, 2018, which has a discussion of this chute and several photographs. Since I did not unpack the chute, I will refer the reader to this thread which shows images of a canopy of another parachute.

Both the harness, pack tray and canopy are in VERY GOOD+ used condition, but of course not suitable for an actual parachute jump. The harness is complete with all attachment hooks and the back pad. The pack tray carries all of the original Switlik-stamped nomenclature (see images above and below) and gives the serial number and a manufacturing date of 1940 for the pack tray and 1945 for the harness. The pack tray has some soiling, but the pack pad and harness are clean and in VERY GOOD condition. It has been stored for many years in a Switlik parachute kit bag, which is also in VERY GOOD condition with functioning Talon zippers (see images below). It has stenciled on it \"Switlik Parachute Co.\" (see images below).

Here\'s a rare opportunity for the advanced aviation collector to obtain a chute which is becoming increasingly difficult to find complete and in VERY GOOD+ condition. The buyer will have my usual unconditional guarantee of authenticity and satisfaction and a five-day (not the 14-days that they insert in my listings without my consent) right of inspection and return/refund privilege, excluding postage.
