With one notable exception, it\'s like a thousand other pieces of bull quartz I examined in the goldfields. Unlike the rest, this one doesn\'t disappoint. It came out of the California goldfields. For someone, it was a prize find. If you\'ve prospected for gold, you know how elusive this stuff can be. If you haven\'t, add it to your bucket list. Dynamic geological forces in the earth\'s mantle injected cracks, faults, fissures, and contact zones with dissolved gold. As super-heated, metal-bearing, aqueous solutions cool, precious metal, along with silicon dioxide (quartz), and other minerals crystallize in sequence. It\'s ongoing. GOLD QUARTZ BUG
My introduction into the world of gold quartz remains unforgettable. Colorado prospector acquaintances, a man, his wife, son, and daughter had ventured back into the interior of the Laguna Mtns. At the time, they lived off the grid in a converted school bus. The Laguna Mining District lay only a few miles east of Yuma, Arizona. A volcanic caldera, Sugarloaf Peak, was the most distinctive landmark within this small, low-lying mountain range. I hadn\'t the luxury of owning a claim, so prospecting was confined to working on land designated recreational by the B.L.M. One day, my future partner, astride a trail bike, cruised up to where I was dry-washing. He hopped off the Honda, walked over, thrust his hand into his pocket, and pulled out a glass vial filled with maybe two ounces of the prettiest gold-laced quartz I had ever seen. It fired my imagination and, to this day, guides my enterprise. So that\'s the story, more or less, of how and why I specialize in gold quartz. Once you\'ve been stung by the gold quartz bug, the after-effects can last a lifetime.
