Picture post card signed "Ollie Johnston" and "Frank Thomas". Color postcard, 6¾x5, with rounded corners. Captioned on verso: "The Unknown Beckons/Mickey Mouse and his nephews are intrigued by the mysteries lurking within Injun Joe's Cave on Tom Sawyer Island. But dare they venture inside?" ©1979, Walt Disney Productions. JOHNSTON (1912-2008, born Oliver Martin Johnston, Jr. in Palo Alto, California), who began his career as an animator with the Disney studios in 1935, and THOMAS (1912-2004, born in Fresno, California), who started with Disney the previous year, were two of the legendary "nine old men", working as animators or directing animating together in nearly every classic Disney feature from Fantasia (1940) to The Fox and the Hound (1981). After retiring, Johnston, who had also been an animator on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Thomas co-authored Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life, the definitive analysis of the studio's artistic accomplishments, and Too Funny For Words. Lightly toned. Portion of label and glue stain at lower right margin.
