Northwest Coast Vtg Totem Pole Charlie Mickey Canada Aboriginal Carved Wood:

This 16\" totem pole was carved and signed by the artist Charles Mickey (1910-1988), a member of Hesquiaht Band of the Nootka Nation on Vancouver Island, BC. It is not dated. The deep carving revealed an eagle, bear, not sure about the center figure... and also a face tucked away under the eagle\'s head. I do wish I knew the stories of all these. The carving itself is deep, assured, and highly skilled, making this a standout. For instance, the sinuous lines of the bear are remarkable juxtaposed with the sharp geometry of the figure above. It\'s 16\" high x 5 1/2\" deep x 4\" wide at the base. As noted, the right wing has a poor repair that shows glue.Please feel free to ask any questions.
