Haden Edwards (August 12, 1771 – August 14, 1849) was a Texas settler and land speculator. Edwards County, Texas on the Edwards Plateau is named for him. In 1825, Edwards received a land grant from the Mexican government, allowing him to settle families in East Texas. His grant included the city of Nacogdoches, and Edwards soon angered many of the previous settlers. After his contract was revoked in 1826, Edwards and his brother declared the colony to be the Republic of Fredonia. He was forced to flee Mexico when the Mexican army arrived to put down the rebellion, and did not return until after the Texas Revolution had broken out. He was also located near the Sabine River. The main town was called Nacogdoches-!!! MORE!!!!(see images above)

ZION\'S HERALD Some Background: ZION\'S HERALD Begun in Boston in Jan 4, 1823 Zion\'s Herald is one of the oldest and greatest of the Methodist weekly magazines.Published By Solomon Sias for the New England Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, H.Badger, editor. Published Weekly for $2.50 per Year. Noted for its independence and spirit, the Herald devoted much space in its early years to religious controversies with Calvinism and Universalism, while also giving attention to news of Methodist missions and churches and to Methodist church history. It was strongly opposed to slavery and in 1835 took up the cause of abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison when he was attacked by a mob in Boston. The Herald also advocated temperance and women\'s rights.Ceased with: v. 6, no. 35 (Aug. 27, 1828). Merged with: Christian advocate and journal; to form: Christian Advocate and Journal and Zion\'s Herald.
