Unique grouping of items regarding Congressman Charles Tracey from New York. Tracey’s sister, a nun, Eliza, seems to have been the keeper of the scrapbook which is filled with dozens of newspaper clippings about her illustrious brother. Also included are photos of Tracey and of his sister, Sister Ambrosia. There is a letter regarding this unusual name. Tracey had an interesting life that included being a soldier in the Pontifical Zouaves. Our research did not readily provide a reason as to why Tracey went overseas to fight in a war when the War Between the States was going on here. Perhaps the news articles will reveal that unknown.
The scrapbook is in pretty good shape considering the age and use. Photos show the binding. All of the pages are accessible without issue. A very interesting find which provides an in-depth view into this fascinating life.
