New Haven, CONNECTICUT - West Bank Park - Judge\'s Cave - 1915:
$8.50

New Haven, CONNECTICUT - West Bank Park - Judge\'s Cave - 1915: New Haven, in the U.S. state of Connecticut, is the principal municipality in Greater New Haven, which had a total population of 862,477 in 2010. It is located on New Haven Harbor on the northern shore of the Long Island Sound in New Haven County, which in turn comprises the outer limits of the New York metropolitan area. It is the second-largest city in Connecticut (after Bridgeport), with a population of 129,779 people as of the 2010 United States Census. According to a census done by the Census Bureau as of July 1, 2012, the city had a population of 130,741. New Haven was founded in 1638 by English Puritans, and a year later eight streets were laid out in a four-by-four grid, creating what is now commonly known as the \"Nine Square Plan\", now recognized by the American Institute of Certified Planners as a National Planning Landmark. The central common block is New Haven Green, a 16-acre (6 ha) square, now a National Historic Landmark and the center of Downtown New Haven. New Haven is the home of Yale University. This Divided back Era postcard features Judge\'s Cave, a feature in West Rock Park. The West Rock Nature Center consists of 43 acres of upland woods and fields at the northern base of West Rock Ridge. The property contains in excess of 300 different plant species, many of which can be observed along interpretive trails that have been strategically located. Wintergreen Brook meanders along the property. The waterfall and gorge are of particular interest. The stream and pooling areas assist students and their teachers involved with aquatic investigations. There are ten acres of open fields adjacent to the more heavily wooded portions of the land. This interfacing of trees, berry laden brushy plants and open fields provide ideal habitat support for birding. The card\'s reverse contains a note which tells the recipient that she is glad she \"likes her new minister,\" and asks \"How is your husband\'s work? Hope he has plenty.\" This Divided Back Era postcard, mailed in 1915, is in good condition, but shows some edge wear and soiling. Danzig & Berman. New Haven, Conn.
