From my Native American collection of tools, which date back, in some cases to the archaic, I’ve only run across these three chisel/end scrapers. There are unusual artifacts and harder to find because most people are more aware of things like the side scrapers, arrow points, knife blades, and things like that. These tools have their business end at the bottom when being held vertically in the hand. There are three different types here, obviously, and it’s neat to have variations on the same tool. The variations here are major: each has a different style of chipping in different stone. One was made from a single well struck flake but two were chipped all around. type are not minor: the limestone one has been struck with the technique that breaks off a single flake, and then works the business end of that flake, but the gray flint and purple chert are made with entirely different chipping techniques and stone, which means they’re from different areas and different ages. They’re from somewhere in the Midwest from Ohio out to illinois and back down around Indiana and Kentucky. $59 including shipping is a fair price for all three of these unusual artifacts.
