Sally Ride (1951-2012) was the first American woman to fly in space.She was an astronaut on a space shuttle mission launched in June,1983. Her jobwas to work the robotic arm. She used the arm to help put satellites intospace.

Rhea Sheldon is an America surgeon, astronaut andadministrator involved in the shuttle program as an astronaut and helicopterrescue crew member. She flew three spaceshuttle missions between 1985 and 1993.

Shannon Matilda Wells Lucid (born January 14, 1943) is anAmerican biochemist and NASA astronaut. She has flown in space five times,including aboard the Russian space station Mir in 1996. Lucid held the recordfor the longest duration spent in space by an American and by a woman. She wasawarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in December 1996, making her thetenth person and the first woman to be accorded the honor.

Anna Lee Fisher (née Sims; born August 24, 1949) is anAmerican chemist, emergency physician and a former NASA astronaut. Formerlymarried to fellow astronaut Bill Fisher, and the mother of two children, in1984, she became the first mother to fly in space. During her career at NASA,she was involved with three major programs: the Space Shuttle, theInternational Space Station and the Orion spacecraft.

Judith Arlene Resnik (April 5, 1949 – January 28, 1986)was an American electrical engineer, software engineer, biomedical engineer,pilot and NASA astronaut who died in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. Shewas the fourth woman, the second American woman and the first Jewish woman ofany nationality to fly in space, logging 145 hours in orbit.

Kathryn Dwyer Sullivan (born October 3, 1951) is anAmerican geologist, oceanographer, and former NASA astronaut and US Navyofficer. She was a crew member on three Space Shuttle missions. Sullivan wasUnder Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Administrator of theNational Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) after being confirmed bythe US Senate on March 6, 2014.
