This is a War ServiceMedal for Prussian veterans who fought against Napoleon during 1813. The medals were created from captured, melted-down, French cannons. Information confirming the fact was etched around its edges. The obverse displayed König Friedrich Wilhelm III’s royal cypher. He led Prussia through this very difficult time. [Under his auspices, the Iron Cross was created in two classes and awarded to enlisted men, NCO’s, and officers]. The medal’s reverse displays the year 1813.
