NICE SLIGH 8 DAY USA WESTMINSTER CHIME WORKING TAMBOR DARK OAK MANTEL CLOCK:
$96.00

We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equallyimpressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at ourother items!

This is a very impressive, well made, 8 Day, mechanical Westminster Chime tambor desk or mantel clock; some even call this a Napoleon's Hat mantel clock. It was created about 45 years ago in "Holland Michigan, USA" by "Sligh" Clock Company, one of the finer makers of timepieces in this region of the world. The case is made entirely of wood and finished in a gorgeous shade of blended dark oak; very nice! This is one of the more impressive chiming mantel clocks I've seen in some time. It measures about 9" at its highest, about 5" at its deepest point, and about 19 1/2" or so at its widest point. The clock is fitted with a precision, 8 Day, German, mechanical movement created by Franz Hermle and bears his name as well as the Germany point of origin. There is an intact label under the case identifying the Sligh manufacture, Holland Michigan point of origin, and the model number. There is a nice, beveled wooden base to the clock on the front and both sides. The dial is surrounded by a hinged brass metal bezel with a convex glass crystal inset into it; no cracks or chips that I can see. It is quite secure yet opens easily to allow access to the three winding arbors located there as well as for setting the time. The dial has a white center and features easy to read, black arabic numerals to mark the hours and ornate metal, matching hands to point out the time. The name, "Sligh" appears in their familiar calligraphic signature logo just below the 12 o'clock position and the country origin phrase, "Made in Germany" appears in small letters at the base of the dial. The back of the clock is hinged and made from wood too. It is quite secure yet opens easily to allow access to the movement itself. Nice spot for the storing the metal winding key if you wish. The clock winds via the arbors located on the dial and lasts for about 8 days on a single wind. And it plays music too and goes through its paces by playing a remarkable four note melody on five metal chime bars at the quarter hour; eight notes at the half, twelve notes at the 3/4 hour mark, and the full sixteen notes at the top of the hour. It will then strike the current number of hours, just like Big Ben in London! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and chimes well too. Keep in mind this is a nice clock but not a new clock. We don't know the service history even though it does show signs of past maintenance but regardless, we always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. If you do this faithfully, you will preserve this classic clock and keep it healthy for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with the metal winding key. I've looked the clock over fairly well and find that it shows very little signs of use and no damage that I can see; maybe a nick here and there but that's all. It has a stunning patina and is simply gorgeous on display! This clock is one of the most impressive chiming models that I've seen in some time. It is certain to dazzle you and any guests seeing or hearing it in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a rare chiming timepiece with a fabulous legacy behind it. offer with confidence; I have no doubt that you will love this clock!
