This is a postally unused early undivided back post card, circa pre 1907.

Card shows a view of Laurel in the Pines Hotel Lake Carasaljo, Lakewood, New Jersey.

Card is published by National Art Views Co., New York City. No.773

Postcard is in very good condition/ as seen. Postcard has only minor edge and corner wear. Please check corners and edges for possible wear as grading is subjective (see scans). A postally unused card may have writing on the reverse.

Prior to March 1907, it was against federal law to write any type of message on the address side of a postcard and the back was plain with no dividing bar down the center. These are called \"undivided backs\" or \"UDB\". However, Congress passed a law allowing postcard makers to designate a space for personal messages on the address side, effective March 1, 1907. For this reason many postcards up to 1907 have messages across their fronts. Writing on the front of early postcards is not a fault.

By 1910 and through the 1940\'s, \"exchanging\" views with contacts who started out as strangers, became very common place. The names and addresses of exchangers were freely passed around. Often times one will see messages on the reverse to the effect, \"Will you exchange cards with me? I like post offices (or whatever)\".
