This is the first USplanetary mission in over 10 years and the first launched by the Shuttle\" The five man crew consisted of Commander David Walker,Pilot Robert Grabe, Payload Specialist Norman Thagard, Mary Cleave, and Mark Lee. The Magellan spacecraft was being deployed to Venus.
