If you notice the hand guard where your thumb would rest is distinctively flat and smooth on both sides. This is where it has the marking that reads "MEMPHIS / NOVELTY WORKS / THOs LEECH & CO." is stamped. You can only read the "MEMPHIS" but it is nice and clear. Above the marking it has the "81" assembly number that matches the one on the pommel cap side. They also have the large pommel cap that has the wide gap between the top of the pommel and where the guard joins into the cap. This one has nice looking brass all over. The grip of the sword has a wonderful untouched look as you can see. This has the tarred canvas over the wooden core. It also has the original double strand brass wire still tightly wrapped around the handle. The blade has a fine looking tone all over and measures 35-3/4th inches in length. The blade has the single hand forged fuller going down each side of the blade. This is a wonderful piece of Confederate made cavalry history from the Civil War.
