The medal measures approximately 1 3/16 inches in diameter. It does not have it's ribbon. It is made of .900 silver. The obverse (front) features an image of Emperor Napoleon III. The reverse contains a list of the most important battles of the Italian Campaign (MONTEBELLO, PALESTRO, TURBIGO, MAGENTA, MARIGNAN, and SOLFERINO). The medal is signed by the famous medalist Emile Fachoronon side with a bust with the "E.F." The medal is also hallmarked for silver on the reverse side of the suspender.
The medal was established in 1859 and was issued to members of the Allied Armies of Italy (France, Sardinia, United Italian Provinces) and the men of the fleet who participated in the War against Austria. The Italian Campaign of 1859 (2nd Italian War of Independence) is considered a major step towards the unification of Italy.
The medal is in very good condition with handling wear.
