NANCY DAVIS REAGAN (1921-2016) Hollywood actress who married fellow actor Ronald Reagan. This 8x10 sepia-toned photograph of the future First Lady is from a collection of vintage Hollywood photos from the late 1940s. Date of photo is unknown.

Nancy Davis, whose birth name is Anne Frances Robbins, met her husband in 1951. (MGM Studios signed her to a contract and billed her as Nancy Davis for her first screen role in the film Shadow on the Wall. The two met in 1951, while Reagan was serving as President of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and Nancy was embroiled in an effort to remove her name from the notorious McCarthy-era Hollywood blacklist of possible communist sympathizers. The list actually referred to another actress of the same name, but it was preventing Davis from finding work, so the future first lady contacted Reagan to see if he, as SAG president, could help clear up the confusion. The two fell in love and were married a year later. Their first child, Patricia, was born 7 months after the wedding. Wyman in 1949.

As an actress, Nancy appeared in film and television roles including The Next Voice You Hear… (1950) and Hellcats of the Navy (1957). The latter film is the only film collaboration between Nancy and Ronald. The two also appeared in an episode of the Zane Grey Theatre (1956-1961) together in 1961. She became the First Lady of California (1967-1975) and the First Lady of the United States (1981-1989) as her husband became an elected official. In the White House, Nancy became an influential force. She renovated the White House. Her influence on the decision-making process for the President was unprecedented. As First Lady, she also launched the “Just Say No” anti-drug program.

After Ronald Reagan's term as president ended, the couple returned to their home in Bel Air, Los Angeles, California. Nancy devoted most of her time to caring for her husband, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1994, until his death at the age of 93 on June 5, 2004. . Mrs. Reagan was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002. Reagan remained active within the Reagan Library and in politics, particularly in support of embryonic stem cell research, until her death from congestive heart failure at age 94 on March 6, 2016.
