I purchased this adorable tiny pot around 1992. It’s made the traditional way the Santa Clara potters make their regular pots. They use the natural clay in their area and put it through a cleaning process, and then coil their pots by hand. Lastly, they build a rough, handmade domed fire structure with wire and cow chips, which smoke it and turn it black. They take a polishing rock and rub it to get the shiny parts to contrast with the natural duller parts to bring the design out. This is in the shape of a melon fruit.A wonderful article on Santa Clara dimensions: 1 1/2” diameter x 1” high

For 3 generations my family owned an American Indian Art Gallery here in Pennsylvania. For 22 years my parents owned a store in Allentown, which I ran for 7 years.
