This beautiiful plate comes from Capula, a town located in the municipality of Morelia, the state capital of Michoacán, Mexico. Capulíneado or capulín design celebrates the Mexican cherry flower (capulin). The motif consists of hand painted small, stylized flowers made up of round dot petals. The flowers are applied lavishly over the entire piece. This artisanal serveware bowl is a bit more contemporary in its look-and-feel than traditional capulin-ware. The colors here are earthy, rich and vibrant with a highly glazed finish and a more abstract capulín design. Handcrafted from clay indigenous to the area. Hand painted earthy tones of dark forest green, red, ivory and yellow on a tan background. Unknown maker. Lead free. In excellent condition probably never used. Measures 10\" x 5 1/2\" appx. and 1 3/4\" deep. Great serving dish for many different foods.
