History of Talavera:This Spanish pottery tradition originates from Talavera de la Reina, in Spain. Talavera pottery is a type of tin-glazed earthenware, otherwise known as Majolica or Maiolica.To make, the lead free tin-glaze process includes - dip, dry, hand-paint, and fire. Because of the ceramic glaze and fire process, these pieces of art have a durable and glossy finish safe for outdoor elements. The primary colors of Talavera include blue, yellow, black, green, orange, and mauve. Each piece is hand-painted by local artisans meaning each piece will be unique to your home. The process from start to finish for each piece can range between three to six months.
