Mexican Folk Art Winged Angel, Carved Wood, Artesania Cacheton 18" Vintage

I have 3 of these Cacheton carved wooden angels. This one truly looks the oldest, and is constructed with nails. Really nice eyelashes and hairdo. I love that twist at the top. All 3 are now in this listing.

I had a very good friend who I knew for a very long time–since college. I have ended up with all his vintage decorative masks and wall art from other countries (Mexico, Guatemala, Nepal, South Africa, Indonesia, and countries I haven’t identified yet). There are about 50 of these items. I am selling them for my friend’s estate. They are so stinkin’ excellent, but I am having a really hard time researching them. I think it’s because all ceremonial and tribal masks are hand-made, hand-painted and hand-carved. They’re all One Of A Kind!

So, I’m kind of guessing on the original origin of this angel cacheton. It’s a fairly educated guess, having done quite a bit of research. I’ll bet I’m close or spot on–Please let me know if you have information I don’t. I’d really appreciate it.*

* From a website about this kind of Folk Art: "Mexican handcrafts and folk art is a complex collection of items made with various materials and fashioned for utilitarian, decorative or other purposes, such as wall hangings, vases, toys and items created for celebrations, festivities and religious rites. These arts and crafts are collectively called “artesanía” in Mexican Spanish. This term was invented in Spanish during the 20th century to distinguish merchandise made by traditional methods versus those made by industrial/assembly line methods.
