Sikhote-Alin Meteorite from Siberia Russia - This meteorite fell to earth on February 12, 1947 in Eastern Siberia. Observers witnessed a bright fireball with a 10 mile smoke trail and heard a deafening roar. The meteor broke up several miles above Earth, creating a rain of shrapnel. One of the largest witnessed meteorite falls in history.Fortunately the fall was in an uninhabited area.Classified as a coarse octahedrite iron IIAB.
Campo del Cielo Meteorite from Argentina - First discovered by the Spanish exploration in 1576, though already well known by the native peoples. This meteorite named \"Field of the Sky,\" is believed to have fallen about 4,000-6,000 years ago. Pieces range from small grains to up to 35 tons. Classified as a coarse octahedrite iron IAB.
